Not every bail situation starts with a dramatic arrest. Sometimes a person discovers there is an outstanding warrant in their name, or they missed a court date and now face a failure to appear — an FTA. Both situations are stressful in a quieter way, because the problem is already in motion and the clock is running.
An FTA happens when a defendant misses a scheduled court appearance, and the court typically responds by issuing an order for arrest. An outstanding warrant works similarly — until it is addressed, the person can be taken into custody at any traffic stop or routine contact with law enforcement.
Sloan Bail Bonding has helped Charlotte residents resolve warrant and FTA situations since 2013. Call us and we will explain the options. For a broader look at how we work across the region, see our main Charlotte bail bonds page.
A warrant is a court order authorizing an arrest. An FTA, or failure to appear, is one common reason a warrant gets issued — the defendant did not show up for court, so the judge ordered them brought in. When an FTA leads to an arrest, the original bond is often forfeited and a new, sometimes higher bond is set.
The important point: warrants do not expire on their own. They sit and wait. Addressing one deliberately, with a bondsman ready, is almost always better than being caught off guard by it later.
When someone is picked up on a warrant or FTA, they are booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center and a bond is addressed — frequently set higher than the original because a missed appearance is now part of the record. We can post that new surety bond once it is set.
If you know a warrant exists but the person has not been arrested yet, call us anyway. We can explain how to handle it and be ready to post quickly, which keeps the time in custody as short as possible.
Once the new bond is posted, Mecklenburg County out-processing runs the usual two to six hours. The unpredictable part with warrants is when the arrest happens — which is exactly why being prepared in advance helps so much.
Step 1 — A warrant or FTA leads to an arrest, or you contact us proactively about a known warrant.
Step 2 — Booking at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.
Step 3 — A bond is set, often higher than the original.
Step 4 — You call Sloan; we confirm the booking and explain the new bond.
Step 5 — The cosigner signs and pays, or arranges a payment plan.
Step 6 — We post the surety bond and release begins.
The premium is North Carolina's standard 15% of the bond amount. Because FTA bonds are often set higher than the original, the dollar figure can be larger — but the percentage is the same.
| Bond amount | Premium (15%) |
|---|---|
| $1,000 | $150 |
| $5,000 | $750 |
| $10,000 | $1,500 |
| $25,000 | $3,750 |
| $50,000 | $7,500 |
Payment plans are available in many cases. Call for a quote tied to the new bond amount.
Warrant and FTA situations reward planning. We would rather take a call before the arrest than after, so we can have everything ready. Either way, we give honest guidance instead of letting a small problem grow into a longer stay in custody.
Whether the arrest has already happened or you are trying to get ahead of a warrant, call us — the sooner, the better.
